Vocabulary for Unit 3

Introduction to Chemistry

We have started our third unit on elements, mixtures and compounds. This is the introduction of understanding chemistry concepts. In this page I will attempt to provide links, worksheets and information on the concepts we will be studying.

Understanding elements and what they are means beginning to understand the Periodic table. We will talk about elements as pure substances and how they are made up of atoms. We will discuss sub atomic particles such as protons, nuetrons and electrons.

Students should begin to understand how and why elements form compounds. They will explore the concept of Conservation of Matter and chemical reactions that both form and decompose compounds.

Later we will discuss the history of the atom and how the theorty was developed.
